| What
makes a leader? In a culture that embraces Domination one might
apply the primitive measure of might, over a pack, herd or tribe.
Survival of the strongest. And while the Leader of the Pack mentaility
works in the animal kingdom, (and some local munches I've attended
around the country) brute force or cunning takes a back seat in
this world that barters in elements of mind and spirit as well as
body. The true leaders here are sharp yes, thoughtful indeed, but
they are also conpassionate souls. They are people, not only willing
to share their experiences and wisdom but their heart and their
true willingness to see a cohesive community and individuals understanding
themselves better. Over the past few years I;ve had the pleasure
of meeting many of these authors and speakers. the first generation
of writers in this millenium, the voices that chronicle our collective
past and illuminate our path ahead. I don't venture to agree with
every notion of every person, though I have found many quite engaging
and call several of them personal friends. To better understand
ourselves we should understand the world around us. Here then in
no particular order, the people we think worth a special mention. |

Jay
Wiseman
I'm an
author and teacher in the field of alternative sexuality known by a
number of terms, including "sadomasochism," "bondage,"
"SM," and "BDSM." I'm probably best known in this
regard as the author of the book "SM 101: A Realistic Introduction."
I live in San Francisco. I'm a heterosexual Caucasian male who was born
on June 16, 1949. I'm six feet tall, weigh 230 pounds (which is about
30 too much), have long, light brown hair, a beard, and wear glasses.
I have three children: two sons and a daughter. All are now grown and
on their own. I even have a grand-daughter.
I'm in a stable, long-term, non-monogamous relationship with a wonderful
woman named Janet. Janet and I are both primarily, but not exclusively,
dominant in our SM orientation. I make my living as a writer. I've written
seven books, most notably "SM 101: A Realistic Introduction."
That book, and my others, is published by Greenery Press -- which Janet
happens to own.I belong to the Society of Janus and to Mensa. I worked
as an ambulance crewman for about eight years, and am currently active
teaching first aid and CPR on a volunteer basis. (I teach several such
classes every year to my local SM community.)
